The DHHIG's National Training Conference’s mission is to increase awareness of, and provide training resources on, issues that face government employees who are either Deaf or Hard of Hearing and their hearing co-workers.
In February 1994, spurred by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees who work at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the agency hosted a first-of-a-kind, government-wide, National Training Conference for the deaf and hard of hearing government employees at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
The Deaf and Hard of Hearing In Government (DHHIG), Inc., established in 1998, eventually became, and is now the permanent organization charged with organizing and hosting this OPM-sanctioned government employee training.
