Presenter Bios
Paticia is the current Division Chief of the Special Emphasis Program Division at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. She has served in this position for slightly more than a year, prior to that, she served as the Agency's EEO Division Chief for the East. The core of her experience with diverse communities and diversity training came in the10 years prior to working at NGA in which she served in some capacity at the local, state and national levels as an attorney, trainer, and grant monitor for several organizations. These positions taught her the value of community mobilization. It is this passion that she brings to her current position.
Kathy has been an Employment Advisor at NTID’s Center on Employment for Deaf/HH college students. She has 20 years experience as a work experience coordinator, job coach and Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf. She has a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling for the Deaf and a BA in Psychology.
Erin is an administrator and educator at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She presently works as the Assistant Director of the NTID Student Life Team. Prior to that she was the Director of NTID Alumni Relations. She holds a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional & Technical Communications, both from RIT.
Socorro is a dynamic young Latina whose parents moved to America from Mexico to pursue their dreams. Socorro was the first to graduate from college despite being the youngest of 3 children. After receiving her BA in Communication Studies from Gallaudet University in May 2007, Socorro participated in the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) as an intern and worked with the Computer Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) at the Department of Defense. At the completion of her summer internship, Socorro was hired through Schedule A at the Department of Commerce (DOC) as a Human Resources professional.
In only one short year working at DOC, Socorro has accomplished much, including founding an organization with more than 10 Deaf employees working on achieving disability awareness within DOC. Socorro is also working with other federal employees with disabilities to assist them in the effort to raise disability awareness and break down barriers for people with disabilities. She continues to be heavily involved with the organization representing employees who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Government (DHHIG). She is passionate about helping students from her alma mater, Gallaudet University, to find internships with the WRP and full time employment in the Federal Government.
Socorro believes strongly that there are no limits to what she can achieve, and that the hearing world has much to learn from those with “disabilities”.
Philip is a managing partner of Alternative Communication Services, LLC and looks forward to using his 20 years of management experience at ACS. Prior to launching ACS with business partner Mike Cano, Phil was Executive Director of a media company specializing in Christian media that focused on the needs of people who were deaf or hard of hearing. Immediately prior to launching ACS, Phil spent over 6 years leading a CART and captioning company to unseen levels. He holds an undergraduate degree in Education from Concordia University Chicago, a Master's degree in Instructional Design from Northern Illinois University , is a Certified Manager of Reporting Services through the National Court Reporters Association and has recent completed training to provide Text Interpreting (TypeWell).
Phil has presented various workshops at the National Court Reporters' Association, Association of Late-Deafened Adults, NTC-DHHIG, PEPNet, Closing the Gap and others.
Regina is a graduate of RIT. She has a BS degree in Social Work and an MS degree in Career and Human Resources Development from RIT. She is currently an employment advisor in the NTID Center on Employment assisting deaf and hard of hearing students with their employment searches.
Deborah Owner, Crossroad Solutions Coach. Certificate in Leadership Coaching, Georgetown University and recognized by International Coach Federation (ICF).
Deborah coaches one-to-one and leads interactive workshops and retreats on life, transition and leadership development for both deaf and hearing communities. She enhances the well-being and presence of individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or hearing anywhere. She designs highly interactive partnership programs that maximize potential and empower individuals to achieve the greatness in themselves.
Professional experiences include director/counselor positions in programs for deaf/ HOH students at Lehman College and LaGuardia Community College, both in NYC, and outreach specialist for Relay Missouri.
Mayer provided MCPO/PEPNet with consulting, informational and training services. She taught graduate courses at Maryville University . Mayer is a local and national educator, a facilitator, coach, consultant and a strong advocate for deaf children and adult's rights.
Anthony is a Case Manager in the Civil Rights Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). His primary duties ensure that those who receive federal assistance nationwide are in compliance with EPA regulations that implement Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 13 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 (prohibiting discrimination based on sex under programs or activities receiving financial assistance under the Clean Water Act.) and the Age Discrimination Act of 1974. In summary, Anthony conducts compliance reviews, applicability of Federal statutes, regulations and policies, jurisdictional reviews, investigation of complaints (based on race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability), and Freedom of Information Act requests.
He has served in this position since 2003. Anthony also took a detail position at the U.S. Department of Justice and conducted similar work upholding Title II and Title III under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Department’s regulations. Prior to joining EPA, he was an intern with the U.S. State Department in the Office of the Legal Adviser, Claims and Investment Disputes.
Anthony currently is an Awards Board Member. In this capacity, he works with several other board members to determine the deserving nominee for the EPA Manager of the Year award as well as other Agency prestigious awards. He also serves other lead roles in EPA’s Quality of Work Life Initiative.
Anthony is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY where he received his Bachelor of Science degree (BS) and Management Development diploma. He also graduated from American University where he received his Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree.
Anthony is a recipient of the Bronze Medal honor.
Jennifer has worked as an environmental engineer for the Navy since 2000. During the first 5 years, she started out as an intern then a Remedial Project Manager at Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest Division in San Diego, California. After moving to Maryland, she attended graduate courses through John Hopkins University until she took an opportunity to work at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, as an Air and Water Programs Manager. Not only have Jennifer’s past and current job positions involved her use of management skills, Jennifer has experience using a variety of forms of communication in her workplace including: meetings with an interpreter, frequent calls through VRS/interpreter/IP relay, one on one meetings without interpreter, and e-mails/correspondences. Jennifer has a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering with an Environmental Engineering minor.
